…from portrait to self portrait… (acronym: p2sp) was started in 1996 by Antonio Nodar, when he began photographing artists in black & white, and giving them a print onto which they rendered their response in a medium of their choosing. Since then p2sp has spread by word of mouth worldwide, and is uniquie in that it is currently the largest collection of portraits and self portraits ever to be assembled by one artist. The process resembles a dialogue, where the answer to the question posed by the photographic portrait is given in the treatment it receives at the hands of the artists. When both the photographic portrait and the artwork, as a self-portrait produced by the artist are united, the dialogue is complete. Through his lenses Antonio captures a wide range of artists, so that the project as a whole reflects a diversity artistic styles. With the passage of time artists that are no longer with us have come to be included. In this way the p2sp becomes an historical document. While the body of original art works, and photographs of which the final collection of diptychs comprises is not for sale, it will be donated at given point in time in the future.
